Whether you’re looking for your first job in law or making a mid-career move, the culture of a firm is a huge consideration. At Coblentz, we encourage individuality, value collegiality, and genuinely appreciate a good sense of humor.
Coblentz is an independent mid-size law firm with deep roots—more than 125 years in the Bay Area—and an innovative approach to the law and how we practice it. People come to Coblentz because of our record of performance and service; people stay at Coblentz because they love working here.
Talent, ability, and old-fashioned hard work drive our firm’s success, and we believe our size helps seal the deal. We’re small enough to maintain a close connection with our clients and provide the responsiveness they expect, and we’re also large enough and experienced enough to handle the toughest cases and tackle the most complex issues.
When you come to Coblentz, you’ll be working alongside a committed team of gifted lawyers in a creative work environment. Because of our size, you’ll get early hands-on client contact and challenging and exciting work from your first day at Coblentz.
Our firm has a long and robust history of pro bono service and community involvement, and it’s a vital part of our culture. As an attorney at Coblentz, you’ll get the opportunity to work on pro bono matters that are directly relevant to your practice and make a real difference.

Compensation and Benefits
Associates are paid an annual salary based on the individual’s Class Year. Class Year is determined by the individual’s years of experience since graduating from law school as well as years of experience in a related field of work. The Firm’s current pay range for associates who have between six to eight years of experience is $300,000 to $325,000.
We offer a hybrid work schedule, annual discretionary and hours-based bonuses, and competitive benefits, including health, retirement, family care, and mental health benefit programs.
1L 2026 Summer Clerkship Program
We are seeking applicants for our 1L Summer Clerkship Program. We have designed our program to give talented 1Ls who may not have been exposed to first-tier law firm practice an opportunity to engage in a variety of legal matters, across a range of practice areas, with close mentoring by partners and associates. Our goal is to immerse our summer clerks in the firm and provide a straightforward look at our work, our people, our culture and our clients. Over the course of eight weeks, summer clerks will work on varied assignments, attend practical workshops and trainings, and network with our attorneys through social events and shadowing opportunities. Our program focuses on what we can do for our summer clerks, not what they can do for us.
We know the value of hiring, retaining, and promoting attorneys with broad, diverse and eclectic backgrounds. Coblentz has been Mansfield Certified for the past three years and we are seeking additional certification in 2026. Not only does our inclusive history help define us as a firm and a culture, but it helps us to better understand and serve our clients and our community.
As part of our ongoing inclusion efforts, we are pleased to offer our 1L Summer Clerkship Program to students graduating in 2028 who are members of broadly-defined historically underrepresented communities in the legal profession. Past participants have included law students who are members of underrepresented racial, ethnic, disabled, LGBTQ+, low income or first-generation communities. Interested candidates should have demonstrated leadership qualities, personal and professional accomplishments, and an active interest in community involvement (which may include a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity in the legal profession), shown in their resumes and/or cover letters.
Program Length: 8 weeks, starting in early June 2026
Weekly Salary: $4,038
To apply, please email your resume, cover letter, and Fall 2025 transcript (if available) by Friday, February 20, 2026 to attorneyrecruiting@coblentzlaw.com. In-person interviews will take place in early March in our San Francisco office.
Even when we are not actively recruiting for a particular role or practice group, we are always interested in hearing from people who share our ideals and our passion for the law. If you’re an attorney with strong academic credentials, demonstrated writing abilities (law review, journal, or judicial clerkship), an entrepreneurial spirit, a commitment to community service, and great interpersonal skills, we’d like to be in touch. Please submit your resume and cover letter to AttorneyRecruiting@coblentzlaw.com.
