Jason Putnam Gordon is a corporate and securities attorney representing startups, emerging-growth, and middle-market companies as outside general counsel, and in financings, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transactions. He also regularly advises on corporate divestitures, entity formation, joint ventures, strategic alliances, international contracts, and other commercial transactions. Jason represents a diverse group of clients, including virtual reality, augmented reality, video game, software, hardware, life sciences, and IoT companies, as well as non-technology-related businesses.
Having founded and managed a boutique law firm before joining Coblentz, Jason is known for bringing an entrepreneur’s perspective to his advice and counsel. He understands his clients’ need for speed, precision, and tolerance for calculated risk so that they can grow successful enterprises. Jason also understands that positively leveraging networks and relationships is crucial in any business endeavor. He advises his clients in the strategic decision-making, planning, and implementation processes to aid them in turning risk into opportunity.
Before joining Coblentz, Jason founded and managed Putnam Gordon, P.C. (PGPC), a corporate and securities boutique law firm focused on startups, emerging-growth, and middle-market companies. Prior to forming PGPC, he was an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he focused on civil litigation and served as counsel to some of the largest technology companies, including Google, Netflix, and RealNetworks. Before joining Wilson, Jason served as a law clerk for the Honorable James Knoll Gardner, a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Jason has taught business law at U.C. Berkeley Extension and has served as a Supervising Attorney with Startup Legal Garage at the Institute for Innovation Law at Hasting College of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of San Francisco. He has been admitted to practice law in California, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
Jason serves on the board of the United States Parachute Association and has been a competitive skydiver. Jason believes that in any endeavor involving risk, whether it’s skydiving or business, success comes from preparation, practice, and purpose.
Jason earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Villanova University School of Law, where he was on the board for Villanova’s moot court team. While in law school, Jason externed in the startup group at the Philadelphia-based law firm of Pepper Hamilton, LP, and interned at the District Attorney’s Office in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Jason received his B.A. in economics from Wake Forest University.
