Sports & Entertainment

Coblentz provides our sports and entertainment clients a full range of representation through our corporate, real estate, and intellectual property practices, offering creativity and commitment that matches our clients’ contributions.

Sports

The Bay Area is home to many national and international sports franchises, and we’re proud to serve as real estate and corporate counsel to one of the most prominent: the San Francisco 49ers. The work we’ve done for the 49ers and its affiliates includes large, complex, and seemingly impossible deals: everything from an ownership reorganization to major real estate and land use counsel to advising on complex property and income tax issues.

Because our firm frequently handles transactions involving ground leases, we were able to help the San Francisco Giants (China Basin Ball Park Company LLC) overcome enormous challenges to build the highly acclaimed AT&T Park in downtown San Francisco; we continue to work alongside the Giants’ general counsel on a variety of matters.

Entertainment

Our firm has built a national reputation for its successful litigation for the music industry, and being in the epicenter of the Internet revolution, has been a leader in matters involving music and the Internet. We’ve helped to vindicate the intellectual property rights of artists and other content owners in the constantly evolving environment of file sharing and peer-to-peer technologies, including successful work on behalf of the music publisher plaintiffs in the much publicized A&M Records Inc., et al. v. Napster, Inc. case.

We also represent major music performing rights organizations in public performance rights enforcement actions and have represented the Recording Industry Association of America in its litigation against MP3Board.com under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
