Yuan Hawbaker


Yuan Hawbaker is a trusted advisor to business leaders in a spectrum of industries who all share a common desire – to continuously innovate with integrity. She provides legal and strategic advice to her corporate clients through all stages of their business lifecycle from formation to exit. In particular, she counsels entrepreneurs on navigating high-growth stages in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic global investments, and intellectual property licensing. She also specializes in advising individual stakeholders on their day-to-day corporate governance matters to mitigate operational risks in the face of emerging opportunities.

Yuan began her legal career as a corporate associate at K&L Gates LLP in Hong Kong and Singapore where she practiced cross-border mergers and acquisitions involving the US, UK, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. She subsequently moved to the Bay Area to join Ragghianti Freitas LLP in Marin County, after serving as in-house counsel to Canada’s largest community builder, Concord Pacific, in her hometown of Vancouver.

Yuan is a native Mandarin speaker who is fluent in French.

Professional Activities

Yuan is a member of the State Bar of California and the Intellectual Property Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco. She dedicates a portion of her time to research institutions and non-profits committed to the advancement of neuroplasticity, having volunteered over the past two decades for organizations such as the Vancouver Brain Injury Association, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and the Schurig Center for Brain Injury Recovery (formerly known as the Brain Injury Network of the Bay Area).


Yuan earned her B.S. degree in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she co-founded the Hastings Science and Technology Law Journal, now in its ninth year of publication.
