San Francisco's School of the Arts Nabs 2nd Place in State Finals Mock Trial: Highest level for a San Francisco Team
San Francisco. March 25, 2010
Clifford Yin, a Partner at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP, along with Coblentz lawyers Eleanor Hicks and Courtney Huizar were extremely proud when their team, the San Francisco School of the Arts, advanced to the state finals in San Jose last week. Yin has been coaching high school students in the mock trial program for over 15 years. Their team finished second among 34 counties – the highest any San Francisco team has achieved. School of the Arts won the first four competitions, moved on to be one of two finalists, and competed in an extra finals round presided by California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno. The team performed exceptionally well, winning both the pre-trial motion and the defense verdict from Justice Moreno. The students enjoyed the competition immensely and were ecstatic to compete in the state finals. The Mock Trial Program is organized by the Bar Association of San Francisco and was developed in 1980 by the Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF). The program is an inter-scholastic competition where high school students try a hypothetical criminal case. The program was created to help students acquire a working knowledge of our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of our society.
Pamela Duffy, a name partner, congratulated Yin, Hicks and Huizar for volunteering their time in coaching the students, adding " It's an honor to be part of this program and observe the fabulous work of the students and coaches." Clifford Yin specializes in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on real estate litigation. Eleanor Hicks practices general corporate and securities law. Courtney Huizar is an attorney in the Litigation Department.
